Punch Line

Year: 1988
Studio: Columbia
Director: David Seltzer
Writer: David Seltzer
Cast: Tom Hanks, Sally Field, John Goodman, Damon Wayans
A bit of a misfire in that it wants to be a serious drama about comics, at least in the scenes I remember, such as a suburban husband (Goodman) not approving of his wife's (Field) ambition to be a stand up comedienne.

But she's been taken under the wing of another ambitious comic in the making (Hanks), who grooms her to be a pro. When they both have a chance to compete in a cutthroat competition, they're pitted against each other, but all she wants to do is prove herself and win her husband's blessing.

I don't remember it being particularly funny, just a drama about stand up comedians.
