Raising Arizona

Year: 1987
Director: Joel Coen
Producer: Ethan Coen
Writer: Joela Coen/Ethan Coen
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, Frances McDormand
One of the Coens' best simply because it's one of the most overtly comic. Containing black humour rather than just blackness, it tells of a mismatched couple (Cage and Hunter) who decide to steal one of a set of quintuplets because they can't have their own.

Trying to hold onto the baby amid various thugs and goons from both their past days (she as a cop, he as a thief) proves harder than they thought, and produces some great, clever comedy. A perfectly understated performance by longtime Coen fixture Goodman in particular.
