Robot Jox

Year: 1990
Production Co: Empire Pictures
Director: Stuart Gordon
Writer: Stuart Gordon/Joe Haldeman
A thoroughly guilty pleasure from the man behind another trashy guilty pleasure, Stuart Re-animator Gordon.

Before Transformers, manga and Mech Warrior, this story of futuristic battles between giant, drivable robots in desert arenas gave us a very cool first glimpse of giant metal fighting machines.

It's the post World War 3 world and disputes are settled by the challengers duking it out in huge desert stadiums driving massive robots to shoot and slam each other. Who else would think of one of them falling on a stand and crushing thousands of fans to death?

Plot, you say? Robots fighting and decent effects - that's all you need to know. Followed by the only slightly less trashy Robot Wars.
