Shelter Island

Year: 2003
Director: Geoffrey Schaaf
Cast: Ally Sheedy, Patsy Kensit, Stephen Baldwin
Big screen style, straight to video payoff. A handful of intriguing performances and a story (and script) that keep you wondering what's going on all the way through are spoilt by a climax that unravels a run of the mill (and rushed) hidden agenda.

A motivational speaker escapes the emotional aftermath of a mugging on weekend retreat with her female lover. A creepy redneck turns up in the middle of a stormy night, and together with a snooping cop, they form the basis for a well-executed but ultimately unsatisfying extortion scheme.

A cast of well-known faces live up to the excellent production, but are let down by the B grade conclusion.
