The Tall Guy
Year: | 1989 |
Director: | Mel Smith |
Cast: | Jeff Goldblum, Emma Thompson, Rowan Atkinson |
Charming and clever comedy about a loser American actor (Goldblum) who lives in London and whose only job is whipping boy for a popular stage comic (Atkinson, in his best - and most far removed from his usual - role ever).
It follows the trials and tribulations of him trying to make ends meet, find decent acting work and fall in love with no nonsense nurse Kate (Thompson).
Some classic set-ups, like the sex scene that just about demolishes Kate's flat and the musical Elephant based on the Elephant Man, and funny dialogue make it a comic delight.
Atkinson, as the foul mouthed, abusive star comedian, is priceless, and you've never seen him the same since.
