Only their mother can tell them apart, as the joke tagline said. After a genetic experiment years before, scientists have succeeded in creating as close to a physically perfect human specimen as they can, in the shape of the strong but sheltered Julius (Schwarzenegger).

But the experiment led to the creation of a twin embryo made up of (as one scientists says) 'the crap that was left over'. The crap has grown into the short, dumpy but streetwise hood Vincent (DeVito), and the movie is one long joke of Vincent showing Julius life in the real world - driving cars, meeting girls and the joys of alcohol ('am I shit-faced?' Julius asks the party with all the innocent excitement of a little kid at one point).

There are a lot of laughs in the premise at the expense of our cultural awareness of twins but the story isn't anything too challenging.
