The US vs John Lennon

Year: 2006

Writer: David Leaf/John Scheinfeld
Very much in the vein of the documentary form that's been mainstream since the age of Michael Moore, with the directors using existing footage, interview material and drawing their own conclusions about how the US government declared a quiet, clandestine war against the peaceniks of the Vietnam era, Lennon among them when he found the town he believed to be his spiritual home in New York.

With good access to people from Lennon's life, it chronicles his evolution into a peace activist and the powers that be in the Nixon administration and beyond who were increasingly mindful of the influence he had over public opinion.

It's everything you expect, and pleasantly so.
