Vampire Hunter D
Year: | 1995 |
Production Co: | CBS Sony Group |
Director: | Toyoo Ashida |
Using a terse minimalism even amid the action sequences, Vampire Hunter D is as much a mood as a narrative. It tells the story of a far future on a (seemingly) alien world where vampires rule. In a classic Man With No Name archetype, a young farm girl hires a mysterious vampire slayer, D, to depose the local vampiric crime lord.
A good example not so much of the art of animation, but the Japanese style of action cinema within action, a language all its own that attracts a narrow but dedicated fanbase as a result. If you're new to anime, this is a good place to start.
