I always watch David Lynch films with a little trepidation, certain I'm going to feel like an idiot not knowing what's going on while everyone else fawns over what a genius he is. I found this if not the most understandable of his films, at least one of the more accessible to watch.

In a strong parable of The Wizard of Oz, lovers Sailor and Lula are desperate to stay together so they go on the run to stay out of the way of Lula's domineering mother, meeting (and trying to avoid) the usual mob of Lynchian weirdos on the way.

More overtly comical than many of Lynch's films, and starring a cast that crop up in his stuff time and time again.
